Up Taller committee, “The Coming Up Taller Award is the Nation’s
highest honor for after-school and out-of-school arts and humanities programs
that serve young people. The President and I strongly believe that arts
and humanities education is essential for nurturing creative thinkers
who will be our Nation’s future leaders.”

“Citywide Poets is the tip of the iceberg, or the cherry on the
sundae of InsideOut’s programming. Youth in Citywide Poets
devote themselves to yearlong study and after school poetry workshops.
Like many adult readers and audience members, I often find myself inspired
by our young people’s courage and flair with language.
I am grateful that they share themselves so willingly with us, and I am
profoundly moved that, through this award, many others will be able to
appreciate and understand their truth and potential.”
